Shelter Resident Assistant

Position Title:  Shelter Resident Assistant

Reports To:  Shelter LEAD

Position SummaryPurpose and Scope]:  This position provides direct services to victims of domestic/sexual violence in Shelter Program.  Responds to hotline calls.  Oversees residents’ responsibilities associated with communal living.  Currently we are need of the following Shifts:

  • Weekend Morning (Saturday and Sunday) – 8am-3pm
  • Weekend Evenings (Saturday and Sunday) – 3pm-11pm
  • We always are in need PRN staff to help fill the open shifts

The position is with Safe Place And Rape Crisis Center, Inc (SPARCC) state certified Domestic and Sexual Violence agency.   This position will work no more than 1,000 hours per year.  Home office would be SPARCC’s Shelter, undisclosed location.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain safety and security protocols at Shelter at  all times
  • Respond to hotline calls and complete documentation in accordance with DCF, FCASV, VOCA, and agency requirements
  • Provide intake services for residents entering Shelter and exit interviews for residents leaving Shelter
  • Assign and oversee resident duties for communal living, meal/snack preparation and cleanup
  • Communicate Shelter issues with incoming/outgoing staff and maintain happenings log
  • Participate in trainings to meet continuing education and certification requirements
  • Keep Director apprised of activities, informally and by written word
  • Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

Education or Equivalent: High School diploma with prior experience in providing domestic violence-related services preferred.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements: Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills and personal computer skills. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and related community resources. Significant knowledge and commitment to feminist, domestic violence, and sexual violence doctrines. Must pass Florida Department of Law Enforcement criminal background check, be eligible to work in the U.S., have reliable transportation and a valid Florida driver’s license.  Upon hiring: must pass CORE Competency Training for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault; pass and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification;  successfully obtain Victims Compensation and address confidentiality applicant assistance certifications from the Office of the Attorney General; and document 16 hours of approved continuing education annually, with at least 8 hours in trainings related to sexual assault.

Physical Requirements: Position requires physical ability to lift approximately 25 lbs., sit or be on feet for extend periods of time, bend freely, and reach objects over head.  Must be able to converse on a telephone and use a keyboard effectively.

Compensation:  Hourly rate will $14/hr

Relocation Expense:  SPARCC does not provide relocation expenses.
